We see many people submitting photos with fire in the background.
As providers of information, we thought it would be a great idea to post a tutorial on how to create realistic looking fire, so you can add this element to your photos, banners, and fliers.

There are lots of tutorials about creating fire. Here is a simple and efective one, that even a beginner in Photoshop can use to achieve the desired effect.

1. Begin by filling the background with a dark colour. Create a new layer and paint about half of it dark red (or orange).

2. Select Dodge Tool and set it to Midtones. Dodge to lighten the red, then using the Smudge Tool make the fire bend to different heights and curves.

3. Dodge again (this time set the Dodge Tool to Highlights) then, with the Brush Tool, add some yellow and orange.

4.Smudge to make the colours blend in.

5. Dodge some more and you’re done.

Lovely! One thing that I've noticed about real fire is that, it's either a blueish colour or almost clear at the bottom, where the fuel is. The only reason I know this is I'm a bit of a pyro who's spent too much time looking at it.

I don't mean anything negative towards you though! This is amazing!

Yeah, there is a little white too, and then a clear area before you reach what is actually burning.

Looks Like fun! i lone burn/dodge! use it a lot! I agree, we tend to forget fire has colors in it like blue and violet, even green sometimes! It looks like we have all spent considerable time looking at fire... hmmm...still, it looks very good!.
